Sewer Repair in Bucks County, PA โ€” Spot Repairs, Offsets, Bellies & Root-Damaged Joints

Not every bad sewer line needs full replacement. When the camera shows one broken joint, one offset, or one crushed section, we repair that section and leave the rest of your yard alone. Registered Master Plumber, PA HIC #5653.

Sewer Repair โ€” Done Right by a Local Master Plumber

Most homeowners who call us about sewer repair have already been told they need a full lateral replacement. Sometimes that's true. Often it isn't. The difference is whether the pipe has failed along its whole length or failed at one place โ€” a single cracked hub, an offset where the ground settled, a belly holding water, or a section crushed by a tree root or a driveway.

We answer that question with a camera and a sonde locate before anyone quotes a dig. The scope tells us the pipe material, the condition of the pipe wall, and the depth and distance to the defect. If the run is otherwise sound, a spot repair is a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the restoration of a full replacement.

When to Call

When a Sewer Repair Is the Right Call

  • โš ๏ธThe camera shows one defect at a known distance, with sound pipe on both sides
  • โš ๏ธBackups keep returning after jetting even though the line cleans up well
  • โš ๏ธA section under the driveway or sidewalk settled and the pipe offset with it
  • โš ๏ธRoots entering at one hub rather than at every joint down the run
  • โš ๏ธA belly holding standing water that shows on the scope as a pooled section
  • โš ๏ธCast iron that has channeled out along the bottom in one stretch near the house
  • โš ๏ธA previous contractor's patch that failed at the transition fitting
  • โš ๏ธA sinkhole or soft spot in the lawn directly over the lateral

Our Process

How We Handle a Sewer Repair

Open trench for a sewer line spot repair
  1. 1. Camera and locate

We scope the line from the cleanout, mark the defect above ground with a sonde locator, and record footage and depth so you see what we see.

  2. 2. Decide repair vs. replace honestly

If the rest of the pipe is sound, we quote the spot repair. If the scope shows failure the whole way, we tell you that instead of selling you a patch that fails next year.

  3. 3. Permits and utility marks

We pull the municipal permit and call in the PA One Call marks before the shovel goes in the ground.

  4. 4. Excavate the defect only

We open the smallest hole that lets us work, cut out the failed section, and tie in new PVC with proper couplings and bedding.

  5. 5. Re-scope and backfill

We camera the repaired run, meet the township inspector at the open trench where required, then backfill, compact, and restore the surface.

What We Handle

What We Repair

Offset Joints

Settled ground pulls one section out of alignment and the edge catches everything moving past it. We cut the offset out and re-set the run to grade.

Cracked & Crushed Sections

Vehicle loading over shallow laterals and driveway compaction crush clay and Orangeburg. We replace the crushed length in PVC.

Root-Damaged Hubs

Clay hubs let roots in at the joint. Where it's one or two hubs, we replace those hubs rather than the whole lateral.

Bellies & Sags

A low section holds water and collects solids. Correcting a belly means excavating and re-bedding that run to proper fall.

Failed Transitions

Cast iron to clay, clay to PVC, and old lead-and-oakum joints are common failure points. We rebuild them with the correct shielded couplings.

Missing Cleanouts

If your house has no exterior cleanout, we add one during the repair. It makes every future drain call faster and cheaper.

Sewer Repair FAQs

Can a sewer line be repaired instead of replaced?+

Often, yes. If the camera shows sound pipe on both sides of a single defect, a spot repair is the right fix. Replacement is the answer when the pipe has failed along its length โ€” collapsed clay, deformed Orangeburg, or cast iron that has channeled out throughout.

How do you know exactly where to dig?+

We push a camera with a transmitting sonde to the defect and locate it from the surface, then mark the spot and the depth. That's what keeps the excavation small.

Do I need a permit for a sewer repair?+

Most Bucks and Montgomery County municipalities require a permit and an inspection before the trench is backfilled when the lateral is opened. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.

How long does a spot repair take?+

Most single-defect repairs are a one-day job including excavation, pipe work, and backfill. Depth, driveway or sidewalk crossings, and inspection scheduling can extend it.

Who owns the sewer lateral?+

In our service area the property owner generally owns the lateral from the house to the municipal main, including the portion under the sidewalk and street. Call us with your address and we'll confirm what your municipality requires.

Do you give free estimates on sewer repair?+

Yes. Estimates are free and quoted in writing before work starts. Call 215-364-0133.
