Sewer Scope on a 1962 Clay Lateral — Warminster, PA
Homeowner had a slow main-line backup twice in one month and a contractor had already quoted a full lateral replacement. The camera said otherwise.
What we found
- •Original vitrified clay lateral, tile joints every 4 to 5 feet
- •Root intrusion at roughly 38 feet, right under the front tree line
- •Standing water upstream of the roots — the line was holding, not collapsed
- •No belly, no offset joints, no separation on the rest of the run to the main
What we did
- ✓Jetted the line with a root-cutting nozzle and cleared the mass back to bare pipe
- ✓Re-scoped after jetting to confirm full pipe wall and clean joints
- ✓Recommended a spot repair at the one bad joint rather than a full dig
- ✓Handed over the recorded video and a written report with footage marks
The homeowner spent a fraction of the replacement quote and kept the rest of the lateral in service. The written report and video are on file if the house ever goes on the market.
