Galvanized Repipe in a Doylestown Borough Victorian
Brown water at the upstairs bath and pressure that dropped to nothing whenever a second fixture ran. The house had plumbing from at least three different eras stacked in the same walls.
What we found
- •Original galvanized steel supply, corroded nearly closed at the horizontal runs
- •Copper patched into galvanized with no dielectric — accelerated corrosion at every joint
- •Static pressure fine at the meter, collapsing under any real demand
- •A capped-off branch behind the plaster nobody had documented
What we did
- ✓Repiped the supply in copper and PEX, run through accessible chases to limit plaster damage
- ✓Replaced every original shutoff with quarter-turn valves at the fixtures
- ✓Removed the dead branch and properly abandoned it back at the trunk
- ✓Pressure-tested the system before closing anything up
Full pressure at every fixture with two running at once, clear water, and a supply system the next owner won't have to re-do.
